Witchwood... By: Gywdia Tyr

Witchwood... a foul brew indeed. It is a tall and twisted tree, nearly as hard as iron. The very subtance is toxic to most creatures, poisoning their biles and bilious fluids. Even a good bleeding, which may restore surface colour does little to alleviate the deep toxins, and any splinters left within a wound quickly fester in a most disturbing fashion.

Indeed this foul plant does not appear to be magical in any way, no more so than poison ivy or sumac, however its toxic effects are much worse. The plant is easily recognized by its midnight bark and purple leaves.

It likes to grow within shaded groves, in a damp temperate climate. It is often tended to by those creatures known as 'Forest Wraiths' and used in the crafting of their arrows and blades.

Venomthorn... By: Tilvar Brein

Venomthorn
By: Tilvar Brein, Master Alchemist
Date: 1030

Common Name: Venomthorn

Also Known As: Death Vine, Poison Thorn

Availability: Rare

Habitat: Forests

Description: Venomthorn is a climbing vine covered in large thorns. The bark of the vine is redish brown with a rough scale like texture much akin to that of a red pine tree. The Venomvine has few leaves but those it does have are small and bright green in color. Unlike most vines, the leaves of the venomthorn do not fall off or change color in the autumn. They remain bright green throughout the year. This is mainly due to its unique form of "feeding". The Venomthorn will grow up a tree and dig into it with its thorns. The thorns have a hollow center with a pin sized hole at the end of the thorn. Once the thorns are dug into a host tree, the venomthorn uses them to siphon water and nutrients out of the host. When the host tree eventually dies, the vine unlatches itself and grows towards another tree to serve as its new host. Unlike its close relative the Vampire Vine, the Venomthorn will only feed off of plant life.

The sap from the roots of a venomvine is hghly sought after by alchemists. It can be used to speed up the reaction time when make several forms of toxins.

Fire Moss... By: Tilvar Brein

Fire Moss
By: Tilvar Brein, Master Alchemist
Date: 1023

Common Name: Fire Moss

Also Known As: Faery Moss, Glow Moss

Availability: Rare

Habitat: Swamps

Description: Fire moss is a redish moss that grows in clumps about the size of a grown man's fist. Its name comes from both its color and the fact that it gives off a slight glow at night. Some legends suggest that the moss is planted in swamps by some mysterious creature in order to lure in prey at night. Whether the legends are true or not, many young herbalists have gone into a swamp after Fire Moss never to be seen again.

Fire moss is used in potions to speed up the reaction time of other ingredients. The moss itself has no alchemical effect on the finished potion, it just speeds up the time it takes for the other ingredients to fully react with each other.

Magic Seeds
By: Stephen DeZorn
Date: 1052
Purpose: It is theorized that the seeds were created as a means of lightening the weight of food on travelers walking a long distance.

Description: Individual seeds are about the size of a walnut. They have a dark green shell with dark red stripes.

History: I found a pouch of 30 of these seeds in a saddle bag. The bag was laying near the skeleton of a horse. The bones had been gnawed and picked clean. I had been wondering without food or water for a week when I stumbled across the seeds. I was fumbling to open the pouch and dropped one of the seeds. As soon as it hit the ground, it grew into a melon the size of my head. I cracked the melon open to find sweet white juicy fruit. I devored the whole melon in what seemed like the blink of an eye. I was not thirsty or hungry again for many days.
