The Striped Salmar
By: Filbus Bergree, Master Fisherman
Date: 987
Common Name: Striped Salmar

Average Life Span: 7 years

Habitat: The striped Salmar is found in slow moving rivers in temperate climate. They seem to favor deep pools in river bends as well as holes created by the current as it moves under fallen logs or other obstructions.

Description: The Striped Salmar is a large fish prized for its delicious pink meat. The average adult is two feet long and weights 15 pounds. The Striped Salamar gets its name from the black iridescent stripe that runs the length of its silver body. Its spiked dorsal fin is also striped.

The striped Salamar’s diet consists of minnows and the occasional insect. Larger Striped Salamar are known to eat frogs, small river eels, and even small ducklings. The best way to catch one is to drift down river in a boat with a fishing line running out behind you about 10 yards. The best bait is a medium size minnow with a small flat piece of metal tied to the line above the hook. The flash of the metal as it works through the warter attracts the Striped Salamar to the bait.

By: Sathen Yilvar, Woodsman
Date: 1038
Common Name: Wolf

Also Known As: Lupine, An'Iupin, Wode

Nourishment: Carnivorous

Sleep Pattern: Primarily nocturnal

Number Commonly Encountered: Pack of 3 to 6

Movement Type: Quadraped

Average Life Span: 12 years

Habitat: The common wolf varieties in Phanterra can be found in almost any wilderness terrain, with differences in coat length and color attributed to their habitat. They are most common in dense forest and hilled terrain.

Climate Found: Temperate, Subarctic, Arctic

Description: The wolf is well muscled quadraped of the canine family. It tends to stand waist high on a human as an adult, and weighs in at around six to eight stone. The dense fur of this animal can range in color from white to black, with many shades in between. Other colors may include ocher, tans, and occasionally a bluish tint.

Wolf packs rely on group tactics to hunt, and tend to pick the weakest target from their opponents. They will attempt to hamstring an opponent and drag their prey to a safe place to eat. When injured or threatened by superior predators wolves will flee, though often not far.
